This is a beautifully hand-made custom competition ARF model constructed using competition free-flight techniques. The wing is a built-up Kevlar sheeted D-box design that utilizes carbon fibre faced balsa ribs and a carbon fibre strip trailing edge. The rear section of the wing is covered with Oracover Lite. The fuselage is painted fibreglass with carbon fibre reinforcement and is gel-coated white. The tail boom is made of unpainted carbon fibre. The hand-built tail is made from contest balsa, laminated with carbon fibre strips, and then covered with Oracover Lite. The elevators and ailerons are covered and pre-hinged. This is a fully built sailplane needing only the attachment of the tail to the fuselage and radio installation.

The Photon II has been built to minimize weight and maximize strength. The careful use of composites combined with an underlying wood structure in the wing ensures a good light structure that will hold its shape for a long time. This synergy of low weight and strong structure is very unusual in a production sailplane and can only be achieved with careful attention to design and construction. This is an extremely light competition model. We have found the Photon II to be an excellent light lift The long tail moment and large tail surfaces enhance low speed handling.
